Photography is my obsession. Born and raised in the Manhattan, Kansas area, I developed an appreciation for the beauty of the Flint Hills region very early. I began taking photographs of the outdoors, pets and people when my mother gave me her Kodak Brownie camera on my fifth birthday. I have had a great deal of trouble putting down a camera since.
Style. I love a challenge. I do not limit myself to one style or category of photography, but rather strive to learn something new at every opportunity. Basically, if it can be photographed, I will study, plan and give my best creative perception. I attend professional conferences and workshops, usually through PPA (Professional Photographers of America) annually. I love collaborating with others, particularly cosmetologists, makeup artists, and creative visionaries.
At weddings, our style is a combination of photojournalism and portrait photography. I believe each couple should have unique images that represent their day rather than "cookie cutter" style photography, which might use a repetitive shot list. Rolan and I are pleasant and easy-going, always looking for a way to make your day go smoothly. Whether it is picking up and delivering the flowers or hemming a groomsman's pants at the last minute, we are more than simply wedding photographers.
Experience. Captured Moments Photography has been a full-time business since 2008. I chose to take photography classes in college at KSU while I was pursuing my B.S. in Biology. One of the best experiences of my life was an internship with the Pacific Whale Foundation where I had the opportunity to photograph humpback whales. Later, photography supported me while I completed a Secondary Science Teaching Certificate and M.S. in Curriculum Development. By then, I'd completely been bitten by the photography bug and there has been no looking back!
Rolan was a childhood photography enthusiast as well. When he first enrolled at Kansas State University, he worked as a party pic photographer, gaining experience and having fun at the same time. He enjoys the chance to be creative and photograph weddings as the second photographer. We both love to travel and relish destination photography (ask us about your destination wedding!) We are extremely thankful for our wonderful, supportive clients and friends for our success and look forward to many more years of business.
Location. We are located just north of Manhattan, Kansas along Tuttle Creek Lake. Our in-home studio is conveniently close to town and comfortable, yet we are surrounded by the beauty of the Tallgrass Prairie and lake.
Family. We have three very active children and several pets. Consequently, we photograph many sporting and school events as wells as animals. We volunteer for several local pet rescue organizations and foster a variety of homeless animals. Our life is never boring!
